I've just been passed this by the lovely people at the design festival. I managed to attend a hand full of the events last year and there simlpy isn't anything better in the city going on that help people get a head start in fashion. If that's the career you want to follow don't miss out!
Finishing School

The Liverpool Design Festival is pleased to announce details of this year’s Finishing School. Now in its second year, Finishing School offers fashion designers an expert range of continuing professional development workshops.
This is a unique opportunity for fashion designers at all career stages, and those working in related industries, to learn the secrets for success. Established designers and industry experts will share their experience and insights through talks and one-to-one sessions.
This comprehensive three day programme will also cover topics such as fashion marketing, what a fashion buyer looks for, fashion styling and trends with one-to-one sessions available with our industry experts
This year’s inspirational speakers include; Christopher Shannon who is one of the most exciting menswear designers working in Britain today and David Longshaw, a Womenswear designer who incorporates his beautiful illustrations into his work and whose garments and accessories are currently featured in both UK and Italian Vogue.
There will also be sessions from Joanne Watkinson, Head Buyer at My-wardrobe.com, Clare Buckley a stylist for The Guardian newspaper and Mike Shaw from Patent Trade Attorneys, Marks & Clerk.
TICKETS: £10 (£5 students) per day or £25 (£12.50 students) for the full three day
programme. One-to-one sessions are £5 bookable in advance

Exhibition update.
There's only five days to go until my exhibition opens. All the new shoots are complete including yesterdays shoot with the new Blood Brothers star Natasha Hamilton and celebrity designer Phillip Armstrong plus Claudia Pinks shoot featuring Scouse beauty Rikaya Tagoe who is the current miss Black Britain.
However there have been a few changes made to the work that will be shown. I'm made up to reveal that the fabulous Millie Dollar has performed in an video installation piece directed by my self. Here is the info as it will read on the Liverpool Design festival website as of monday......

Shake it like a polaroid picture!
As Kirsty Doyle opened her new flagship store with a bang this Thursday, she also relaunched her e-commerce site.
Kirsty commented:
‘I’m really excited about our website relaunch- we have really pushed the brand forward this season and in response to customer requests have made the collections available online as well as in store. We have also extended our product lines to include workwear and a limited range of classic pieces from past collections that can be tailor made to each customer alongside our main collection.
The launch party was the perfect excuse to get the picture that will be part of a new mini collection of portraits. These one off polaroids will be of all the fashion designers featured in the main body of work at my exhibition, 'Matt Ford- Fashion outside the capital."
The exhibition is a collection editorial fashion photographs taken by my self that highlight Liverpool's melting pot of fashion creatives. The designers work that will be featured during the 10 day exhibition will include dresses by celebrity favourite Phillip Armstrong, Hand Bag Designers Nook and Willow, Jewellery Designer Claudia Pink and T-shirt designer Matthew Moore. All of whom are making waves on the national fashion scene.
There will also be collaborations with my self and some of Liverpool's best kept fashion secrets, such as eccentric hat designer Hayley Marsden, the fabulous corsetiere Lorrain Talor from Boobytrapp Corsets, Lola Love's and Kelly Mulin to name but a few. Kelly will also be showing her video installation of the new tweed and rubber collection Shell Shocked.
If that wasn't enough the designers will be presenting actual pieces of their work in a separate section of the exhibition. The free to visit exhibition is only on for 10 days so don't miss it. xx

Runway-The Justice Vogue Ball. The Pictures.

Spreading a little glee to the sombre backdrop of Nation, the Vogue Ball 'houses' let their bodies go with the flow, and danced like it was 1984...
For some, it’s synonymous with a certain Kabbalah-toting megastar. But as with most trends, it began long before it crossed over into the public consciousness.
Evolving from the gay scene of Harlem in the early 80’s, Vogueing was a dance style that quickly became competitive, with groups – or ‘houses’ – battling off against each other to see who was, well, fiercest.
Little did they know (or, probably, care) that two decades later, Vogue would arrive in Liverpool as part of the Homotopia festival. After a year off, organiser Darren Suarez is back at the helm – with the ‘houses’ battling for supremacy, appropriately enough, in the house-music homeland of Cream, in Nation.
With a catwalk plunging through the Courtyard, and the proceedings MC’d by Rikki Beadle Blair, and a Scouserati A-list of judges (well, Pete Price, a DJ and a host of glammed up attendants) the competing houses played off against each other in a number of rounds including the intriguingly named “Erotica” section.
With Garlands and LIPA dancers among the home-grown field, this was definitely a Vogue derby – although the costumes were even more eye-catching than the Everton away kit.
To a pumping soundtrack of poppy dance, House of Garlands took to the catwalk dressed like the Royal Family on amyl nitrate. If you hadn’t worked it out before you arrived – it was now blindingly clear: it was time to fasten your seat belts. It was going to be a bumpy night.
The crowd was now well and truly on its feet – having their own dance offs around the stage. After the official show, everyone was invited to take part in the “Orphan” round..with the catwalk open to anyone brave enough. And there were plenty. From groups of lads in suits to a mother and daughter duo, they strutted and twirled their way down the runway, beaming smiles on their faces.
Whilst the night might not have quite been the “event of the year” that the flyers promised, it’s definitely well on its way. The new venue was certainly more fitting than the shabby-chic Adelphi, its predecessor, and the dancers throughout were superb; with one being signed up on the spot by judge Julie Kavanagh owner of JK Dance Agency.
The real stars of the show? The audience. What could have been any chilly night at the Newz Bar was transformed into a glittery, glamorous good time as gay and straight, old and young, lads and girls left their egos at the door, danced their sequined socks off, and made for an authentically entertaining night out.
As Madonna once said “Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it…”

The Juice Fm Style Awards- The Winners.
Liverpool WAG, Alex Gerrard and Everton player Mike Arteta were certainly celebrating style this weekend– as they picked up the Most Stylish Scouser and Most Stylish Sporting Star gongs at the annual Juice FM Style Awards event, sponsored by Contessa Hotels, held at the breathtaking Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Saturday 23rd October.
The Saturdays, The Wanted, Diana Vickers and Alex Gardner provided the musical backdrop for the awards ceremony as three hundred guests attended to celebrate the best in Liverpool’s music, fashion, culture, sport and style.

107.6 Juice FM listeners nominated and voted online in seventeen categories ranging from Liverpool Street Style, Best Bar, Best Restaurant and the Music Award which was won by The Saturdays – following their recent chart successes.
Alex Gerrard proudly accepted the Most Stylish Scouser award on the night, which was presented by Justine Mills from Cricket alongside the members of The Saturdays – while her other half received the coveted Most Stylish Icon Award. The Most Stylish Sporting Star, which was won by Everton FC’s Mikel Arteta was unable to attend on the night, and the award was picked up by Jose Baxter from Everton FC.
The event also raised money for Alder Hay Imagine Appeal and Marie Curie Cancer Research via a silent raffle.
Adam Weighell, Juice FM Breakfast Show presenter said “Other notable guests on the evening included numerous cast members from Hollyoaks, Eastenders and Waterloo Road. Many of the local WAG’s also joined in the celebrations on the night – making it one of the most successful Juice FM Style Awards to date. I can’t wait for next year already!”.
