Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair.

Words on behailf of Sara Han @ Trashed Coutour.
All the Fun at the Fair with Affordable Vintage Fashion

With celebrities such as Alexa Cheung, Fearne Cotton, and Peaches Geldof turning to second-hand style, Vintage is definitely back in vogue. As we throw away over 1 million tonnes of newly bought, bargain buy clothing every year, its no wonder buying second hand seems so much more appealing to eco conscious fashionistas around the land. Indeed, The Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair has become a big hit with style savvy shoppers all over the UK.

Originating in 2005 the fair has been heralded as a ‘shopping phenomenon’ by the national press. It regularly holds events in cities including London, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield.

The Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair is by no means a rag and bone jumble sale but a popular and un-missable fashion event that picks only the best vintage retailers and traders from around the UK and gathers them together under one roof. It features over 40 stalls and provides the perfect playground for fashionista's, hoping to find anything from a 1940’s evening gowns to a 1980’s jumpsuit.

Former Selfridges’s personal shopper and vintage fashion guru Judy Berger is the founder of the event, she said; “I lived in London for nearly 10 years and fell in love with Portobello and Spitalfield’s market. When I moved back up north it was hard to find somewhere that matched the essence of those places, so I decided to set up an event that was on a smaller scale but created that same vibe and offered a similar shopping experience. Over the last two years we’ve seen a huge increase in people coming to our events. I think people still like their high street shops but are tired of seeing everyone wearing the same things.”

Judy who also runs the largest British clothes swap website www.whatsmineisyours.com goes on to say; “To me Vintage means classic and unique which is something you can’t find on the high street. There’s something magical about finding a perfect vintage dress or blouse as they come with a little bit of history attached to them. Our events are like treasure chests, you have to dig a little but you end up finding a true gem without having to spend a fortune.”

Visitors to the fair can expect to find a large selection of quality vintage fashion items but for very affordable prices making the shopping experience even more fun and fulfilling.

The Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair will be heading to these cities on the following dates:

September 25th The Engine shed, Lincoln University

September 26th The Workstation, Sheffield

September 27th Northampton University, Park campus

September 28th Leeds University student union
