While on a personal P.R. trip 'down South', Liberty of London menswear buyer spotted Matthew wearing one of his own T's. Knowing Matthew as a designer he asked how many more were in the collection. Unfortunately the T was, at the time, a one-off just for himself. Never missing an opportunity, Matthew replied, "There's an eight-piece collection in the pipe line." Before he knew it the collection was ready to go, and is on the rails in Liberty as we speak.
Matthew's label, now called Modern Love, seems inspired by a contradiction of elements; with graphic sharp lines and shapes mixed with earthy imagery. Matthew tells me the collection feels very romantic because of the use of roses, cherry blossom and stars; even the simple graphic shapes discretely reference to love symbolism.
The SS10 collection is also available in Liverpool ONE at Kirsty Doyles Boutique (at the side of Urban Outfitters). We will be shooting the full SS10 collection really soon as well as the AW10 and it will be posted on here as well as the forthcoming Modern Love website.
